Jesus Comes to Our Rescue

How many times have you gotten upset with yourself for giving in to a particular sin you vowed not to do again but you did! Believe me; I know the struggle and so did the Apostle Paul. He wrote in Romans 7:18, “… for I have the desire to do what is good but I cannot carry it.” Then in verse 21 of the same chapter Paul concluded, “When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.”

In this life Christians will always have to deal with that old nature. It will try to raise its ugly head as you and I strive to become more like Christ in our character. Sometimes we can get so frustrated and discouraged when we give in to those same old temptations. The good news is our Lord Jesus Christ saved us from our failures of not allowing the Holy Spirit to control our thoughts, actions and attitudes. On those days when we seem like we cannot get it together spiritually, and we start beating ourselves up for messing up, the Guiding Word (the Bible) reminds us that Jesus comes to our rescue! Romans 7:24-25 says, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? (Then Paul answered his own question) Thanks be to God –through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Through faith in Jesus Christ, the same grace that saved us is the same grace that sustains us in daily living. God knows our hearts are genuinely devoted to Him and He understands our struggles with overcoming temptations but His grace is sufficient even when we sin. When we genuinely confess our sins and seek His forgiveness God promised to cleanse our hearts of the sin and to remove the guilt (It is the guilt of failure that causes us to become so discourage). Our daily prayer of confessions is what keeps us in fellowship with God (1 John 1:9).

The Word guides us to daily depend on the Holy Spirit to empower us to live the Christian life and when we sin, let us not beat ourselves up with guilt, remember we have Someone who will come to our rescue, our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 John 2:1)
